Origins and design
The forest cemetery opened on 18 May 1950. Its burial fields were integrated into the existing trees of Frankfurt’s municipal forest. A woodland section for urn graves now complements the conventional grave types.
Present-day character
The grounds cover about 7.9 hectares and combine their period of origin with an active municipal cemetery. The woodland setting and the municipal ‘Unter Bäumen’ burial grove are especially distinctive.
Reading the history on site
The cemetery tour links the northern entrance, ceremonial hall and central green corridor. Burial areas and funeral ceremonies remain sensitive spaces; keep an appropriate distance and observe temporary closures.
